About

The Foundation’s grant to Environment Victoria enabled the development and production of the film, Beyond the Burning. It documents the devastation of the Black Summer bushfires, the effects on local communities and how Indigenous land management practices alongside renewable energy will help communities mitigate future bushfire disasters.

Environment Victoria Community Organiser Emma Horsburgh said, “After the devastating bushfires of last summer, we’ve seen communities in East Gippsland come together to create innovative solutions that help build a more resilient, sustainable future.

These stories are at the heart of our new short film Beyond the Burning. While exploring the terrible toll and underlying causes of the 2019/20 bushfires, the film also demonstrates how the local community has been able to use this moment to seed positive change.”

Environment Victoria can help you organise your own screening of Beyond The Burning for your community or film festival. Contact Emma Horsburgh or visit the Environment Victoria website to learn more.
