Melbourne Women’s Foundation

In 2024, Melbourne Women’s Foundation celebrates its 10th anniversary of bringing together individuals united by purpose to make a meaningful difference in the lives of women.

Founders Pat Burke OAM and Gillian Hund OAM (pictured above) were honoured for their vision and unwavering belief in the power of collective philanthropy at a special anniversary event. Gillian, who will soon be stepping away from her Board role, received a moving tribute from Pat, who also acknowledged the contribution of all members in the Foundation’s success and the support of Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation in its establishment and growth.

Starting with 87 pioneers, the Melbourne Women’s Foundation is now a community of 157 members. Their contributions of time, treasure and talent has been the cornerstone of the foundation’s success. By the end of this year, the foundation will have granted $1.5 million to nonprofits addressing key issues facing women and families in Melbourne. In addition, the foundation has been recognised internationally by Philanos, as a catalyst enabling grantees (Women and Mentoring) to secure further funding.

At the anniversary event attendees heard from Cat Fay, a founding member and social investment specialist at Perpetual Limited who shared remarkable stories of unsung women in philanthropy in Australia and were inspired by the innovative work of Justice Connect, a past grantee organisation, as shared by Kate Fazio, a member and impact advisor.

The Foundation has touched the lives of Melbourne women in innumerable ways, most recently with grants to Prison Network and St Kilda Gatehouse who offered members a progress report.
