Exploring food education and training to support the food relief sector and provide vocation opportunities for vulnerable communities.
With the help of over 900 community and charity partners, Foodbank feeds more than half a million Victorians seeking food relief each year.
As the largest provider of food relief, the organisation works with farmers, retailers and manufacturers to source and rescue more than 10 million kilograms of food and grocery items annually.
Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation has funded Foodbank to explore an education and training centre at the Foodbank premises in Yarraville which is to include a commercial kitchen, theatrette and event space. It aims to strengthen food relief efforts while addressing food rescue and waste prevention.
Once complete the project aims to provide vocational education and training opportunities for vulnerable communities, as well as food relief sector workshops on food security, food rescue, nutrition and healthy eating.
