Thrive Grants support the capacity building of smaller, grass-roots charitable organisations, enabling them to do what they do better and achieve more in the Foundation's Impact Areas.

Impact Areas

Thrive Grants are available to organisations working in one of the Foundation's four Impact Areas: Education & EmploymentEnvironment & SustainabilityHealthy & Resilient Communities and Homelessness & Affordable Housing.

Thrive Grants are provided for the following areas of support that will demonstrably improve the ability of the organisation to achieve its mission. Applicants must select the organisational capacity area (listed below) that they will focus on.

Leadership Capacity

  • Clarify or share vision and values
  • Enhance decision making
  • Board governance
  • CEO development

Management Capacity

  • Staff development
  • Operational planning
  • Knowledge management
  • Financial planning and management
  • Human Resource planning and management

Operational Capacity

  • Core operating support
  • Fundraising or marketing
  • Communications
  • Information technology
  • Management of legal issues

Change Management Capacity

  • Partnership development
  • Program development
  • Organisational learning
  • Monitoring and evaluation
  • Strategic planning

Priority will be given to projects that; 

  • support a network of organisations,  
  • share resources across collaborating organisations, 
  • are building the capacity of a social enterprise



Annual Income
Thrive Grants are available to organisations with an annual revenue of $3 million or less, who are working in one of the Foundation's four Impact Areas.

Tax Endorsements
To apply for a Thrive Grant, an organisation must be endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) as covered by Item 1 of the table in Section 30-15 of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997, and as a Tax Concession Charity (TCC).

Australian charities registered or operating in Victoria, especially Greater Melbourne, are eligible to apply.

How to Apply 

Applications must be submitted online via the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation’s Grants Portal by 5pm, Wednesday 15 May 2019.

A list of supporting documents required to complete your application can be found in the Guidelines.

If the project is building the capacity of a network or collaborating partners, only a single charitable organisation needs to apply on behalf of the network.
