The Next Economy Jobs Challenge is an Initiative of Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation that will support eligible charities and their partners to test and develop new models, enterprises and programs that encourage next economy job creation for individuals and communities experiencing socio-economic disadvantage.

Greater Melbourne is facing complex interconnected challenges such as the COVID-19 Pandemic, the climate crisis and growing economic inequality. Opportunities for innovation are emerging and new economic business models, sectors and ways of working are offering solutions.

With a focus on disadvantage, the Next Economy Jobs Challenge seeks to catalyse these solutions by encouraging the development of sustainable, inclusive, quality employment pathways. The challenge will support new enterprises, programs, eligible charitable organisations and collaborative initiatives working within these growing ‘next economy’ sectors:

  • Care economy (health, disability, child & aged care)

  • Clean energy & technology

  • Construction of sustainable, affordable, quality housing

  • Regenerative food/urban agriculture systems

  • Community energy initiatives

  • Waste/circular economy

The Pitch

Short-listed applicants will present their solutions, budgets and work plans to a judging panel who will make grant recommendations to the Foundation’s Board. This event will be held at the end of November 2021.
