Dare to Dream Gala Fundraising Launch
August 29, 2011
Dare to Dream is an aspirational program that builds resilience and self-esteem in at-risk teenage girls and teaches them that anything is possible.
Melbourne Football Club and the YWCA will launch Dare to Dream at a gala fundraising dinner on Tuesday September 6 under the ‘big top’ at the MCG. The aim of the event is to raise a minimum of $15,000 to support 30 participants through the inaugural program.
Hosted by comedians Ash Williams and Cal Wilson with sports presenter Tif Cherry, the theme is ‘Roll up Roll up’, a simulated circus environment with entertainment provided by Westside Circus, a community arts organisation creating circus, performance, physical theatre, music and leadership opportunities for young people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
What is Dare to Dream?
Dare to Dream is a joint initiative between the
Melbourne Football Club and
YWCA and supported by the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation. The comprehensive five-week program which will inspire girls to achieve their dreams and fulfil their potential will be rolled out in the City of Casey and will be integrated into the curriculum with the full support of teachers. Dare to Dream is targeted at year 10 girls helping them to build resilience and self esteem. The program is a new initiative developed by Melbourne Football Club and facilitated by the YWCA.
The Dare to Dream program aims to:
• Educate: teach and equip schoolgirls with the necessary skills, confidence and advice to forge their own path in life.
• Empower: give schoolgirls experiences that build self esteem, develop a Dare to Dream attitude and broaden their aspirational landscape.
• Promote: recognise the contribution women make within the community, promoting positive role models for girls and women to emulate.
Through undertaking the program it is hoped that teenage girls will gain a strong sense of their own identity; become more connected with and contribute to their community; have a strong sense of their own (and others) wellbeing; and, through this process become more effective communicators as well as confident and involved learners.
The Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation will make a contribution of $5,000 to the inaugural program.
