Defence Lake Attack Fun Run and Walk Launch 2010
Today the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation in partnership with the Australian Defence Force announced Sue Stanley, triple world aerobics champion and media personality, as the Defence Lake Attack Fun Run and Walk Event Ambassador.
A special procession including two light horsemen and a 15-tonne Bushmaster army vehicle were escorted by Victoria Police north along Swanston Street to the steps of the Melbourne Town Hall as part of the official launch of the Defence Lake Attack Fun Run and Walk 2010.
Inside the Bushmaster was a special pair of gold running shoes that was presented to Sue Stanley to officially signify her appointment as the Defence Lake Attack Fun Run and Walk Ambassador.
Sue accepted her gold running shoes in the presence of Australia’s only female two-star general, Air Vice-Marshall Margaret Staib, along with Colonel Andrew McLean, Joint Logistic Command, and Tony Boll, CEO South Pacific DHL, principal event sponsor.
Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation CEO Andrew Chappell said, “We are delighted to announce Sue Stanley as the Defence Lake Attack Fun Run and Walk Ambassador. Sue is one of Australia’s most respected and much loved sporting champions and we are honoured and grateful to Sue for accepting our invitation to be ambassador for the event.”
Since the mid-1980s the Defence Lake Attack Fun Run and Walk has been organised by the Australian Defence Force as a fundraiser for Legacy, Redkite, Compassionate Friends and KidSafe.
To kick-start the fundraising, principal event sponsor DHL presented Sue with a giant cheque for $42,000 which was also delivered by the Bushmaster. Other sponsors present included Thales Group and PDL Toll.
The 2010 Defence Lake Attack Fun Run and Walk will be held on Sunday 29th August at Albert Park Lake.
