Feed Melbourne: Major Partner Announced
May 25, 2011
The Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation announced it will join forces with Leader Community Newspapers and FareShare to become a major partner in Feed Melbourne.
Launched in 2009 by Leader Community Newspapers and FareShare, Feed Melbourne raises money for food charities to increase their food service capacity, providing more meals and food parcels to people in need.
Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation Chief Executive Officer Andrew Chappell said the Foundation was committed to supporting charities that were on the frontline caring for Melbourne’s most disadvantaged.
“Feed Melbourne is an important fundraising appeal for Melbourne. With the increase in the cost of living, thousands of people are struggling to purchase food, and turn to food programs for assistance.
“The Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation has proudly signed up to Feed Melbourne as a major partner to support Leader Community Newspapers and FareShare with their vision that no person should go without food.”
Since 2009, 40 food service charities and community food programs across Melbourne have received grants to help them purchase items such as fridges and freezers, improve food transport, food handling and to buy food to meet the increased demand.
Today, the Foundation’s Chairman Robert Masters signed a three-year partnership agreement with John Trevorrow, Chief of Staff, Leader Community Newspapers; and Marcus Godinho, Chief Executive Officer, FareShare.
