$7 million for Melbourne's homeless

October 15, 2008: Lord Mayors Charitable Foundation announces $7 million for Melbourne's homeless

Today the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation announced its commitment to reducing homelessness in Melbourne by providing financial support of $7 million to homeless service providers over the next three years.

The announcement was made by the Foundation's CEO Mr Andrew Chappell at "Melbourne's Road Home', a unique forum on homelessness that brought together some of Melbourne's leading experts in housing and homelessness.

"As Melbourne's leading philanthropic organisation we have identified homelessness as one of Melbourne's most concerning social issues, and together with our partners will work to alleviate and ultimately work towards eliminating homelessness in Melbourne.

"We are committed to contributing funds to the organisations that are providing services for Melbourne's homeless."

The Foundation's commitment of $7 million is the largest non-government philanthropic commitment to Melbourne's homeless service providers in recent times.

With14,000 people homeless across Melbourne every night, and almost one in two being turned away unassisted, the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation hopes that the funding will assist in providing care to every person who is or is at risk of being homeless.
