Melbourne's Road Home, a new direction for homelessness
Melbourne's Road Home, a new direction for homelessness
With homelessness fast becoming Melbourne's most critical societal concern, the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation, in partnership with the City of Melbourne and the Council to Homeless Persons, will host a special forum on homelessness tomorrow at the Malthouse Theatre, Southbank.
Titled "Melbourne's Road Home', the forum is the first of its kind and will bring together representatives from across Melbourne's business and corporate sectors, health and welfare sectors, homeless service providers, state and local government, and community-based organisations.
"Melbourne's Road Home' will review and discuss how "whole of community' partnerships can work together to address and reduce homelessness in Melbourne.
The Foundation's CEO Mr Andrew Chappell said, "Every person has the right to a safe place they call "home'.
"Homelessness is an issue that impacts the whole of society and only a society willing to partner together will succeed in eliminating homelessness.
The Forum boasts exceptional keynote speakers who are leading experts in the area of housing and homelessness including State Minister for Housing Richard Wynne; Mr Daniel Grollo, CEO, Grocon Pty Ltd; Ms Deb Tsorbaris, CEO, Council to Homeless Persons; Ms Anne Turley, CEO, Melbourne CityMission, Cr David Wilson, City of Melbourne and Big Issue Editor Mr Alan Attwood.
"Homelessness is a welfare issue that the City of Melbourne takes very seriously, therefore I am pleased that the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation has helped bring this landmark event to fruition, Cr Wilson said.
"Melbourne's Road Home' will present a number of current partnership models. Discussions around the real issues and barriers to success in partnerships will be held. Ultimately the forum will assist us in the process of partnership development.
Project Partner, Ms Deb Tsorbaris, CEO, Council to Homeless Persons said that the sector appreciated the increased support from philanthropic organisations such as the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation.
"The Council to Homeless Persons applauds the Foundation's leadership in bringing together business, philanthropy, non-government organisations, government, and homelessness services and clients to start a committed conversation for ending homelessness in Victoria.
"The Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation is pleased to be working with the City of Melbourne and the Council to Homeless Persons, and will continue to facilitate partnerships under the banner of Melbourne's Road Home, said Mr Chappell.
Remember a loved one and give to your community forever.
