Eldon and Anne Foote Trust
February 15, 2010
Recently the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation was featured in a newspaper article about being a beneficiary of the late Eldon D Foote’s estate. The article raised matters which are important to the Foundation and the principles of its operations and giving.
The Foundation complies with the direction of the Eldon and Anne Foote Trust, which was established with the Foundation in 2000. The Foote Trust has enabled much needed funds to be provided to many charities that are supporting people in need.
For instance, all major grants to charities are attributed to the Eldon and Anne Foote Trust. These are selected from the response to newspaper advertisements and are assessed under a rigorous process by the Foundation’s funding panels of Life-Care, Health and Family (See the composition of our Funding Panel under Grants).
Around ten major grants are awarded each year valued at up to $150,000 each.
The Foundation also has two other grants panels, these being environment, and arts, education and sport, which were of interest to Mr Foote and in compliance with his wishes.
The Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation is very appreciative of being listed as the only Australian beneficiary of the Estate of Eldon Foote.
“We are extremely appreciative of Mr Foote for his kindness, the philanthropic vision he demonstrated and the directions he provided for us in his will. His generosity and the governance processes we have in place with our granting have enabled many people to benefit. In line with this, and our strong focus on our principles and values, we look forward to continuing our valuable relationship with Mrs Foote in relation to the Eldon and Anne Foote Trust,” said the Foundation’s CEO Mr Andrew Chappell.
This year the Foundation distributed $8.9 million to more than 450 charities in compliance with the Lord Mayor’s Fund Act 1930 (with amendments) of the Victorian Parliament under which it operates.
