Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation announces $1.5 million donation

(Melbourne Saturday 13 September 2008) Tonight, at Melbourne's premier fundraising event the Heart of Melbourne Ball, the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation will announce its first ever Signature Grant - a $1.5 million donation to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre Appeal.

Lord Mayor John So, in his capacity as the Foundation's president, will present Olivia Newton-John with a $1.5 million cheque to assist with fundraising for the new cancer centre.

The Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre will be a significant step forward in combating the major impact of cancer on families in our Victorian community; with the centre's main focus to provide support for patients and their families as they undergo treatment, said Lord Mayor John So.

Since 1923, the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation has been supporting Melbourne's health and wellbeing, and in our 85th anniversary year, we are delighted to be able to continue this tradition of caring by making this significant donation to the appeal.

In making this donation the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation is investing even more in Melbourne's healthcare sector; we proudly supports Olivia in her fundraising quest.

Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation CEO Andrew Chappell said that the donation was made on behalf of all donors who support the Foundation.

Our objective is to ensure that we are able to identify and respond to the critical care needs of society.  This donation demonstrates our increased capacity and ability to respond to critical societal needs that can only be met by increased participation and community philanthropy.
