Lord Mayor Robert Doyle launches bushfire appeal with $1,000,000 donation
The Lord Mayor of Melbourne Robert Doyle has launched a bushfire appeal with an emergency donation of one million dollars from the City of Melbourne and Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation.
This will be made up of $800,000 cash and $200,000 in services and in-kind donations.
100 per cent of money donated will go to charities working on the frontline assisting families affected by the bushfires who have lost their homes. Further public donations are also welcomed.
"Victorians grieve because of the tragedy that has engulfed our state.
"Now is the time for us to rally to support people who are suffering by providing as much care and support as we can, Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said.
Cr. Doyle is also President of the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation.
"On behalf of the City of Melbourne and the Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation, we will donate one million dollars to assist the victims of these terrible bushfires.
"More than that I'm asking all Melburnians including businesses and corporate organisations, and the Foundation's supporters and our donors, to make further generous donations in support of our appeal.
"Everyone will know someone who is suffering because of this tragedy. Now is the time to act.
100 per cent of all donations received will be directed to charities assisting people who have lost their homes because of the bushfires.
Donations will fund food, clothing, shelter, health services and other emergency aid as required.
The Lord Mayor's Charitable Foundation has welcomed the quick response and support from Audi Australia, Ritchies Stores, Forty Winks and our strategic corporate partner VECCI (Victorian Employers Chamber of Commerce and Industry) to the Foundation's Bushfire Appeal.
