The Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation today welcomed more than 1500 people from Melbourne charities to celebrate “Christmas in July” at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
“Christmas in July” has become Melbourne’s biggest community lunch and is now a permanent fixture on the city’s winter calendar. Guests were treated to a three-course traditional Christmas lunch, and entertainment included performances by Daryl Braithwaite, Keith Potger and Jonathon Welch’s Choir of Hope and Inspiration, The Salvation Army Brass Band, The Australian Army Band Melbourne and Bi-Polar Bears.
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle welcomed celebrity guests John Wood, Daryl Braithwaite, Mark Holden, Jonathon Welch, Keith Potger, Melissa Hetherington, Matt Hetherington, Sue Stanley, David Neitz and Melbourne Football Club players as well as Lillian and Richard Frank.
Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation CEO Andrew Chappell said the event was just one of the ways the Foundation was supporting people living in need.
“Each year we provide over $8 million worth of grants to charities and not-for-profit organisations supporting and caring for Melbourne’s most vulnerable and marginalised people. Our “Christmas in July” is a special event for the charity staff, carers and their clients to enjoy a great day out together.
With representatives from 150 charities attending the event, the Foundation sought support from 20 sponsors and almost 100 volunteers.
“Thank you to all our sponsors and volunteers for making “Christmas in July” a truly special event.”
